Projet - Oral production and interaction in a foreign language through online ICT tools

Speaking is one of the hardest skills to put into practice when learning a foreign language. Formal second or foreign language acquisition settings do not provide enough room for everyone in the classroom to practice the language. If the learning is done through an online course, speaking is mostly put aside in favour of writing, reading and listening. SpeakApps aims to fill this gap by providing ICT-based services and pedagogies to practice oral competencies online: speaking production and interaction in the CEFR. Thus offering a way for all foreign language learners and teachers to practice and evaluate speaking skills at a distance or beyond the physical classroom. The activities and tools provided in SpeakApps will be designed to be used both within face-to-face courses and as the main speaking activities for online courses.

SpeakApps will provide a holistic solution for improving speaking skills in foreign languages. As such, the website of the project will be divided in three sections: 1) the learning activities and materials, 2) the learning tools and 3) a ready-to-use platform for teachers who want their students to use these activities, materials and tools but do not have or wish to set up the required technological infrastructure and support. SpeakApps and all its contents will be available in six languages: Catalan, Dutch, English, Irish, Polish and Swedish.

This project is funded by the Lifelong Learning Programme, KA2 Languages 2010.

El proyecto europeo SpeakApps pone al alcance del estudiante un abanico de herramientas en línea para facilitar la práctica oral de una lengua.   Actualidad UOC

 Este proyecto servirá para dar un impulso a las actividades orales de aprendizaje y a las herramientas trabajadas hasta ahora internamente y permitirá ofrecer tanto las actividades como las herramientas en acceso abierto, ampliarlas a nuevas lenguas y hacerlas evolucionar gracias al feedback de los estudiantes y los profesores, a las experiencias del resto de universidades y a las pruebas piloto que se llevarán a cabo con cinco nuevos idiomas.

El SpeakApps agrupa una serie de herramientas 2.0 ya existentes, como el Langblog o la videoconferencia, pero lo hace en un único espacio virtual, lo que permite un aprendizaje más profundo y multidisciplinario. El Langblog es un audioblog desarrollado por la misma universidad en el área de Tecnología Educativa en el que el estudiante puede registrar en audio o vídeo su intervención como a respuesta a la tarea planteada por el profesor así como reaccionar a las intervenciones previas de los compañeros. Al final de la actividad, el profesor evalúa la pronunciación y la fluidez de cada estudiante y añade los comentarios pertinentes. Respecto a la videoconferencia, permite practicar un idioma con el profesor u otros estudiantes en tiempo real y se puede establecer conversaciones entre dos o más personas.
